Yang CHEN is a senior business solution engineer in the Applied Innovation Department at PJM. She got her Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 2015, and joined PJM since then. In PJM, Yang has been working on various R&D type projects, supporting the Operations, Planning and Markets Divisions in PJM. For example, she helped develop an automated tool for PJM Operations to calculate the voltage distribution factors so that if a low-voltage event were to occur and load shedding is necessary, the tool is capable to provide a guidance to Transmission Owners on where and how to shed load to achieve the most efficient relief. She also co-developed a cascading analysis tool that PJM Transmission Planning is using to assess the system resilience after extreme contingencies. She is now the technical lead of the cascade analysis project for real-time operations. She helped develop an optimal load shed plan under extreme weathers when multiple contingencies were present and traditional N-1 mechanism was challenged.
