Raia Hadsell leads DeepMindā€™s Robotics Team. She has worked on deep learning and robotics problems for over 10 years. Her thesis ‘Learning Long-range vision for offroad robots’, was awarded the Outstanding Dissertation award from New York University, and was followed by a postdoctoral research position at Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute.

In 2020 Raia was co-chair of the AI Conference, NeurIPS. During this time, the conference introduced a requirement for researchers to set out the ethical impacts of their research and instituted an ethical review process for papers accepted at the conference.
