New York City-based artist and art educator, Lily Gist found her way into tech through web design and online community building. She is the QA Team Lead at Squarespace, where she manages the manual and automation testing teams. She also continues her art practice in her Brooklyn studio, spanning from data visualization to abstract installation. Her work has been featured in galleries throughout the city and surrounding area, including “Hundreds of Graphs of You,” a featured contribution in the Gutai Card Box at the Guggenheim Museum’s “Gutai: Splendid Playground.” This work shared data collected over thousands of conversations, studying her own biases and perceptions of museum visitors. During her time as an art educator at the Guggenheim, she worked with the Mind’s Eye program to discuss art with people who are blind or have visual impairments. In this work, she developed communication strategies that inform her management and problem-solving approaches at Squarespace.
