Joy (she/her) is the public relations specialist on the brand marketing team at Avalara responsible for increasing brand recognition and awareness as a growing global tech company. She has a diverse communications and marketing background, holding positions that shaped her digital marketing, social media, community engagement, and media relations expertise. At Avalara, Joy is one of the communications leads on the board of the Women of Avalara employee resource group focusing on creating inclusive and engaging messaging for the group’s events, programs, and initiatives. She is also passionate about being a fierce ally for underrepresented groups and an engaged member of Ujima (ERG for Black Avalaraians) and Prism (ERG for LGBTQ+ community). Joy holds an M.A. in strategic communications from Queen’s University of Charlotte and was formerly a division one basketball player at the University of Delaware. Outside of work, she is a food blogger focused on highlighting minority-owned businesses in the triangle area of North Carolina.
