J.D. Sassaman is the Senior Creative Workshop Manager at Autodesk’s Pier 9 where she leads the Shop Staff team in running one of the most adventurous, cutting edge spaces for technological exploration. She directly oversees the unique machine training curriculum, making the tools accessible to over 800 users, bringing together artists, designers, engineers, and thinkers to push the limits of what both our hardware and software can do. The workshop includes: Wood, Metal, CNC, Electronics, Textiles and 3D Print shops.
J.D. is committed to creating spaces that empower others through hands-on learning. With a Masters in Architecture from MIT, a degree in Fine Woodworking from College of the Redwoods, and a B.A. in History from Brown University, her career spans craft and design, teaching and fabrication. She currently swims year-round off the SF coast and is learning to repair her vintage vespa.
