CJ Giovingo is a Verification and Validation System Engineer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California. They are currently working on the Flight System team of the Mars 2020 mission, NASA’s next robotic rover to travel to the Red Planet. Their role includes collaborating with subsystem engineers to perform verification activity planning and test execution as well as developing new tools for requirements and verification activity management and tracking across the mission life-cycle. In addition to their work at JPL, CJ is also pursuing a Masters of Science in Astronautical Engineering at the University of Southern California.
Prior to their current work in space technology, CJ had a career in environmental and union organizing, skills that transferred surprisingly well to being a system engineer. Outside of work, CJ is involved in the queer and trans community in Los Angeles through the LA LGBT Center.
