Alison is a Data Specialist at Amazon’s Cambridge, MA office, where she works on assessing and improving the performance of the language models that drive Alexa. Before joining Amazon in June 2017, she trained as a cognitive psychologist, getting a BS from the University of Pittsburgh and a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before completing stints as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Chicago and Johns Hopkins. Her academic research focused on the cognitive mechanisms that support conversation and language comprehension, and she has been enjoying thinking about language use in a more applied setting in her current role.
