THE EDIE WINDSOR CODING SCHOLARSHIP FUND MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR INCOMING LGBTQ WOMEN AND NON-BINARY TECHIES TO KICKSTART CAREERS IN TECHNOLOGY.

Learning how to code is more than education — It’s economic opportunity. Our community, like many underrepresented groups, are turning to coding schools because they are more accessible than four-year, computer science degrees.
We named our scholarship after LGBTQ and technology legend, Edie Windsor, to recognize her heroic victory over the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and to celebrate her technical leadership as a computer programming pioneer at IBM. In love and work, Edie Windsor is one of our community’s greatest role models. We want to be a part of telling her story and helping inspire future generations of LGBTQ, technical women and non-binary individuals.

Here is a list of bootcamps and other programs that we have partnered with in the past. You are more likely to get accepted if you choose one of the following programs because we already have an established working relationship. If you cannot choose one of these schools, please apply early so we have time to connect with the school of your choice.

4Geeks Academy focuses on Coding Education on top of other things. Based in Miami, and with locations across the US, Europe, and South America, they are currently working towards two main goals: delivering a premium coding education while opening new locations. 4Geeks offers Full-time and Part-time Coding Programs, with memberships included to very members of the community, aimed to offer you lifetime support and access to every feature related to the Bootcamp. 4Geeks have graduated more than 650 students, is Licensed by the Florida Department of Education and is the Coding School supporting Miami Dade College full-stack web development program.

Founded in 2012, App Academy is a leading coding bootcamp that has placed over 5,000 alumni in Software Engineering roles at over 2,000 companies. With a comprehensive curriculum covering fullstack web development and extensive post-graduation 1:1 career support, graduates are well-equipped to land a fulfilling software engineering role and advance in their career for years to come.

Scholarship Amount :: 50%

CareerFoundry is a premier, global online tech school that offers self-paced, one to one mentoring with their online program in Web Development, Data Analytics, UX Design and UI Design. Students learn with a dedicated Mentor and Tutor using a personalized, project-based, adaptive and rigorous curriculum. Headquartered in Berlin but with a global student base, CareerFoundry has provided tech education since 2013, to over 11,000 students. CareerFoundry combines the flexibility of online learning with the guidance of Mentors training students to become highly employable graduates in three to twelve months in both part time and full time programs. Students are partnered together with expert Career Services professionals to curate each student’s job search. CareerFoundry strives to be the most human centric education program in the world.

CodeOp is a women-led international coding school that supports the advancement of women, trans, and gender nonconforming individuals in tech. With campuses in Barcelona and online, we offer bootcamp-style courses in Full Stack Development and Data Science. CodeOp equips its students to become adaptive problem-solvers, ready to meet the challenges of an ever-shifting technical landscape via rigorous training in leading technologies. We focus on the fundamentals first, offer small class sizes, and provide 360-degree career support that empowers you every step of the way.

Codesmith’s Software Engineering Immersive program is an advanced residency designed to help individuals launch a meaningful, high-level career in Software Engineering. Codesmith offers a 13-week Full-Time Remote or NYC Onsite Immersive, as well as a 38-week Part-Time Remote Immersive. The rigorous curriculum is continuously adapted to focus on the most relevant and in-demand technologies. Core curriculum covers full stack JavaScript, computer science, and advanced topics (including DevOps and Machine Learning) with an emphasis on block-driven development and technical communication. The expertly designed curriculum is immersed in modern web technologies, such as React and Node.js, and the supportive community encourages learners to tackle unique and unfamiliar problems, important when preparing for the ever-changing tech landscape.

JavaScript for Beginners is a part-time, remote program consisting of two consecutive Saturday sessions. The program is designed for those with no previous coding experience and will teach JavaScript fundamentals, as well as provide a broader context to how coding works.

CS Prep is a 2-week live-online part-time program that builds your core JavaScript knowledge, improves your technical communication, and develops your engineering toolkit so you can solve real-world problems. The program includes daily problem-solving workshops and a passionate coding community to help you prepare for top coding bootcamps, such as Codesmith’s selective Software Engineering Immersive programs.

Coding Dojo has a proven reputation for transforming students with little to no engineering background into successful, full-stack developers. Our mission at Coding Dojo is to transform lives through programming literacy, and with this in mind, we found an amazing opportunity to provide an educational resource for new learners who just need help getting started, and to experienced developers striving to achieve the next step in their career. The game of life is tough, level up with Coding Dojo.

Designlab’s UX Academy program will help you turn your passion for design into a successful career in the UX/UI industry. Through 1-on-1 mentoring with experienced designers, rigorous curriculum, and unparalleled career support, you’ll gain all the design skills you need to land your first product design role — plus a portfolio with 4 in-depth projects.

Designlab has helped hundreds of people across the world transition into the world of UX/UI since 2013, and whether you’re looking to make a full career change or enhance the design career you already have, UX Academy will help you reach your potential.

DigitalCrafts is the top-reviewed coding bootcamp in Atlanta and Houston, offering full- and part-time web development training in-person and remotely. We transform beginners into full-stack software developers trained in JavaScript, React, Node.js, Python, and much more. We also offer staffing services for our corporate clients, placing elite talent at all levels of your organization. And if you need to train your existing team, our top-notch instructors are ready to teach your engineers the skills they need to help you deliver on your company’s goals

Epicodus is the most affordable full-time, in-person code school, and one of the few programs that includes an internship with a tech company as well as job search support. Students graduate with real-life work experience already on their resumes, a dedicated team to help land their first job, and a close community of peers and instructors supporting them along the way.

Fullstack Academy is a top-ranked coding bootcamp renowned for providing immersive, fullstack JavaScript web development training using the NERD stack (Node.js, Express, React, Databases using SQL).

With equal access to knowledge and career development, LEARN academy is teaching a new generation of daring and diverse students to be compassionate, curious and professional web developers. LEARN’s instruction is as approachable as it is transformative — and our foundational values ensure that our students are set up for success, in all its forms.

Program details:

4-month live-remote – Full-Stack web developer program. Meaning, for 3 months you meet and collaborate with your classmates and instructors inside our virtual classroom, M-F, 9am – 5pm PST. For the 4th month, you will participate in a 1-month remote coding internship where you will gain crucial real-world experience and mentorship at a tech company or a start-up. LEARN also provides Career Services during the program and after graduation to design a career plan and help with job placement. LEARN academy will also provide you with a laptop for the duration of the program that has all the software you need for the LEARN curriculum. If you are local, you’ll pick up a few days before the class starts. If you are out of state or more than an hour away, we will mail you the laptop.

Computer Science for Everyone – that is a core belief at Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University. Technology thrives on new, diverse and unexpected ideas and we welcomes people from diverse backgrounds. Our Align program provides a two semester bridge to prepare people with no prior programming experience for graduate level coursework in computer and data science. Already in tech? We also offer a direct entry Master’s programs in computer and data science to advance your career. Our programs are offered at both of our campus locations in downtown San Jose and San Francisco.

Sabio Coding Bootcamp was created in the summer of 2013 to help increase the number of women, and people of color, that became amazing software engineers. Imagine what the tech industry would be like if every game-changing startup had one queer woman, GNC, or trans developer, if everyday apps were built by LGBTQ women and women of color, if women powered 50% — not 20% — of technical roles, if we made up 50% of tech startups – not 5%.

When you teach queer women and non-binary individuals how to code, change is possible | The percentage of women in tech would go up (from 23% total, 5% Asian, 3% Black, and 1% Latinx). We would have greater tech advancements, since women are already 17% more likely to be early tech adopters than men. There would be more successful, women-owned companies, since women-led startups are 7% more successful than male-led ones. This would mean, overall, a better world for women, men, and all people of all backgrounds.
